I have been envisioning this engagement photo for years. I first noticed this area on Whyte ave after photographing an event at Koutouki. I was walking back to my car and couldn't believe this perfect little area nestled between two buildings. I stopped and looked around. I already knew where I would pose the couple and how I would light them. I didn't think it would take me two years to get back there again but it wasn't until Grace and Kevin wanted to use Whyte ave as their backdrop for their engagement session that it started to take shape again. When they asked if I knew about the ally beside Made by Marcus I knew exactly where it was and couldn't be more excited. When we first walked to the area it wasn't quite dark enough yet so we used a few locations near there before heading back. There are a few things that separate a good photographer from a great photographer. One of the best ways to discover this is how do they control the light. Without an extensive knowledge of off camera flash this photo would not be possible. I used a wireless trigger to fire the flash behind Grace and Kevin and they absolutely nailed the pose. Together we created an image that will hang on their wall for years to come.
