Edmonton Chinese Filipino Wedding

Shayne and Eileen both value family over everything and when their families got together to celebrate this Chinese Filipino wedding it was off the charts.

This couples day started off with a traditional tea ceremony in the morning at their house in Edmonton. Eileen wore a stunning qipao for the ceremony and Shayne had to face a gauntlet of challenges before the bridesmaids would even let them in the door.

Shayne and Eileen met at Grant MacEwan so it was only natural that they wanted to have some of their wedding photos taken there. You could tell by the smiles on their faces as soon as we walked through the doors that this place invoked great memories. The stunning architecture made for great wedding portraits.

Over 200 guests stood on their chairs and cheered the newlyweds as they danced their way into Delta Hotel South Edmonton Conference Centre. This remarkable wedding venue is known for the unprecedented view of the Edmonton skyline. The Top of the Inn definitely lives up to the hype.

The highlights of the reception were the surprise performances from Shayne's family. An electric guitar solo from one of the groomsmen, traditional tinikling folk dancing by Shayne's cousins. If you are not familiar with tinkling this is when two to four people slide bamboo poles on the ground while beating and tapping them to the music. Then the dancers step over and in between the poles. They even got the bride and groom up to show their skills. The guests were loving it. To finish off the performances the mother of the groom dance elegantly to a choreographed traditional song.

One of our favourite Filipino wedding traditions is the money dance. Shayne and Eileen's guests lined up in front of them and started pinning money on the newlyweds clothing to wish that good fortune will be rained upon them. It has a whole new meaning to the term "make it rain"

It was such an amazing wedding from start to finish. Both sides of the family treated us so well and we were honoured that you chose Darcy Preece Photography to capture such an important day for you.
